Maris Young

doula | writer | speaker

I’m Maris, like “Marissa” but without the “uh” at the end. As a mother of two, writer and former podcast host, I’ve spent countless hours studying the physical, emotional and spiritual shifts that pregnancy and postpartum set in motion. I want to share the insight I’ve collected over the years so that other women can make more informed decisions about their own care. I hope to be a touchstone in the river, a loving presence that people can turn to for resourcing, guidance and support as they find their own footing on the banks of motherhood.

Fun Facts

  • I gave birth to my first child at a birth center. And my second child was a surprise breech baby born during a planned home birth!

  • I speak Spanish and French!

  • I love learning! I’m currently studying: Breathwork Somatic Healing Emotional Embodiment Narrative Therapy Herbalism Yin Yoga

Doula

Childbearing doesn’t have to be overwhelming. If you’re planning to conceive soon, currently pregnant or early postpartum, you deserve support.

Writer

I publish a weekly-ish column called In All Honesty over on Substack. It’s a somatic exploration of what it means to me to walk in integrity. If you’re into nervous system work, somatics, embodiment and narrative, come join the community.

Speaker

I am passionate about reproductive justice and the importance of culturally compassionate care within communities of color. If your virtual or in-person event is centered around related themes, I’m interested in presenting.
