Have you ever had one of those days when you lose sight of the purpose behind your mothering?
You can’t see it, but I’m raising my hand HIGH.
The weeks blur into years, and resolute displays of toddler defiance have become commonplace. And I admit: sometimes, I struggle to remember what this is all building towards.
When I spoke with Eve Rodsky a few episodes ago, author of the New York Times’ Bestselling book Fair Play, she mentioned viewing our homes as our most important organizations. And then it hit me. The most successful organizations are held together by a central aspiration: a mission statement. It helps keep everyone working towards the same, overall goals.
So, what if we applied the same concept to home life as well?
In Ep. 046 of #younghonestmotherthepodcast, I share:
- hard truths that have gotten in the way of seeing motherhood for all that it is
- how business organizations can inspire unity within the home
- the first steps in declaring a parenting mission statement of your own
Press play to tune in.
What if we collected our individual, partnership and family values and then formed parenting mission statements to remind ourselves of our long-term purpose? I think our homes would operate much more like a unified organization if we did.
